Wild Bovine - Charges are not uncommon

With close to 2,000 lb of sinewy muscle, wicked horns and a temper to match - wild bovine are New Zealand's only true dangerous game and charges are not uncommon.  Here's what Texan TV show host and hunting personality 'Pigman' has to say about bow hunting wild bovine:

"I'm from Texas, I raise cattle. Man, I thought I ain't shooting a cow.  But we get over there and these things were insane like a cape buffalo with their nose down trying to run over you.  They were actually the wildest things I've ever hunted"

A 'new' New Zealand adventure

You can now experience a whole new kind of hunting adventure in New Zealand with a wild bovine hunt.  Head off on a road trip with Lowie because this one's way off the beaten track.  You'll even stay in a well equipped mountain cabin high up in the hills for a night or two.  The nature of this hunt is such that there's no guaranteed trophy, only guaranteed opportunities... unless of course you can guarantee us you have nerves of steel.  This is a really fun hunt to spend a couple of days on, because you can also chase wild goats and spotlight for possums in the evenings.  This hunt is not for the fainthearted.

Heli or horseback access to a remote wilderness cabin

It's a real thrill to take a 20 minute flight by helicopter over rugged gorges and bush covered mountains.  It'll probably leave you wondering why any sane person would ever think of farming this area.  Alternatively, you can ride in on horseback or via ATV.  The cabin is set on a sunny clearing, with hot showers and the pleasure of a hot hearty meal after a challenging day bull hunting.  Two nights minimum are recommended for this exciting hunt.

The story behind wild bovine

In the late 1800's people tried farming this remote country, and then the First World War saw a lot of the farmers go overseas for their country.   The farmers eventually arrived home with little money and a growing wild pig and bovine population and no guns to shoot these animals.  The unpredictable elements and the wildlife eventually chased the settlers out of these valleys.  The current generations of cattle are all that remain of these farming ventures.  Because we travel to this hunt, we join up with some locals - kiwi characters whom have spent their lives in this remote wilderness.
