You haven't hunted New Zealand 'till you've taken a red stag

Red stag hunting was once regarded as the Sport of Kings. The first time you focus your binoculars on this magnificent species, you'll understand why. Majestic and mighty, hunting a regal red is a terrific challenge.  New Zealand is internationally renowned for exceptional red stag, so what are you waiting for?  Here you can find the world's greatest herds on offer.

Character and characteristics of red stag

The red stag is an unpredictable beast.  You never know if he will run on sight or stand his ground in an aggressive pose.  This species is usually renowned for wariness but during the roar he will sometimes casually wander into the open to feed, full of confidence that his harem of hinds will alert of potential danger.  Younger satellite stags will roar challenges in March and early April, posturing and daring the master stag to lock heads.  When they connect, the sound of clashing timber reverberates around the valley.

Antler characteristics are more varied than any other New Zealand species.  Not only does the size of heads vary, but the variation in antler colour, number of tines and 'freaky' features can amaze even the most experienced hunter.  From long tines to drop tines, wide or heavy with kickers, you'll have a huge variety to choose from in our uncrowded and expansive hunting environments.

An affordable dream hunt

All inclusive hunt packages start at US $6300 but if you want to hunt 2 x 1 then you'll pay less.  Packages are inclusive of trophy fee for a minimum 7 x 7 stag, all guiding, accommodation, meals and airport transfers.  If you would like to combine other species into your hunt, ask us what we can package up for you.  Super stags are available, but are priced upon application.
